- --- On the topic of transgenders and the like ---
-
- Anonymous (2026-01-22 15:22 ID:To1E45N8 )
- I don't understand people. Would it be SO HARD to let other people live their lives peacefully and have no transphobes exist on this planet whatsoever? When did uttering a friends' actual pronouns because you're caring and love your friends and aren't a jerk become the equivalent to that of uttering a curseword to close-minded individuals? I know transphobes are all jerks and everything that's wrong with the world right now,but i think they would benefit from,oh i don't know, letting people live their lives and not giving a damn?! I have no sympathy for transphobes, but it would probably save them(and us)from a lot of headaches if they'd just let people live their lives... \n\n

- I find these kinds of arguments to be a bit disengenuous... “we're just smol beans trying to live in peace and those nasty evil stinky TERFs want us all DEAD!” Most people who don't subscribe to the transgender ideology (“““transphobes”””) simply think males are males and females are females. That's it. The simple common-sense definitions of man and woman based on sex markers, and anything else about society and gender roles only reinforce regressive sexist stereotypes. If you ask them they will usually say people can express themselves however they want. They don't need to give a damn. It's when they're told that their understanding of the world is wrong and they're a bigot for holding these views that creates the friction you're talking about. \n\n For example, you're talking about “actual pronouns”, so you're playing a different language game to them, and telling them their world view is fundamentally wrong. To them, it isn't wrong at all, and an insult to their intelligence to be told to treat a man as a woman just because he feels like it and wears a dress. Compare with this: Lesley is an aetheist, and Jamie the Christin tells Lesley that they're a sinner and they're going to hell for doing something the Bible forbids. Lesley feels certain that there's no such thing as Hell or God, and the Bible has no authority over anyone's actions, so Jamie's accusation just seems ridiculous. \n\n I'm not trying to flame you, as Charles Munn once said, “I ain't got a bitch in this race!” - I have cis friends, trans friends, non-binary friends and terf friends. I try to treat everyone with warmth and respect, and don't usually engage in the “culture war” debates, but I noticed that the kinds of things TERFs were accused of saying, isn't really a true representation of their point of view. And all I can do is just observe and laugh at some things tbh. \n\n

- Here are some of my favourite counterarguments when a gender critical person makes a logical point: \n\n > >Why are you so obsessed with genitals?
- >Oh, suddenly you care about women's sports now?
- >Actually certain types of fish can display male and female behaviour traits
- >What so if a woman has her womb removed she's no longer a woman???
- >Intersex people exist y'know!
- >I take pills every day of my life and get plastic surgery and put on a fake voice so I can be my authentic self

- Agreed. >>2 is a whole-ass case study on that. If he met OP in person they would probably resort to violence to be proven right. I know how these types work with debate "skills". \n\n

- >>5 Why do you think that? What a crazy projection. I would never ever resort to violence, what a stupid thing to say. This is a friendly discussion forum and I'm engaging with your topic in good faith. Why is that your reaction to a different opinion? 3 paragraphs is a “whole-ass case study“ yet you agree the topic requires nuance? Something about debate skills? What do you mean? \n\n >>6 You're agreeing with yourself, and I think most would agree with you, including me. Most people don't care at all if a man wants to roleplay as a woman in their private life. The friction begins when their paths are forced to cross. E.g. when lesbians use lesbian dating apps, but then most of the people offered to them are males, and the lesbians get called bigots because they aren't interested in penii. Or when rape victims go to a women's spa and find their masseuse is a male, and they get called a bigot for being uncomfortable about it. Male comfort is prioritised, women just have to deal with it. \n\n

- >>7 It's a popular topic and we're on a forum for general discussion. You're not obliged to engage but why do you think a differing opinion must be a troll? \n\n >>8 I engaged in good faith and your response is telling me to kill myself. Hilarious and expected. “Kek”. \n\n >>9 We can see you're replying to yourself. I'm outside often, “go outside” is a very clever response on a discussion forum. Feel free to reply to my points, or keep replying to yourself making ad hominems about a stranger :) Either way I wish you well. \n\n

- >>13 I didn't bring it up. I'm also not trying to stir shit or descend into shit flinging. I don't think I'm embracing an extremist position either. I made a thoughtful response to someone's topic on a forum based on my personal experience, and I welcome any counterpoints to what I said. OP stating a point of view and other people discussing it is what a forum is for. What good does saying the debate goes nowhere do?

- >>18 That's really a question for OP but why shouldn't it be discussed with strangers online? Yes I am interested in where this conversation would lead, or else I wouldn't have replied. What's not sensible so far other than trying to shut down the conversation? \n\n > > Its better off having these kind of talks irl with actual people. Not true at all. Similar to what you describe, you can't have friendly discussions about contentious subjects with some people in real life (not just gender ideology). On one hand you've got people like >>5, whose first reaction to having their point of view challenged was that I would use violent force against them. What would it have been like if we were face to face? Any more or less chance of arriving at truth or finding a middle ground there? On the other hand you get called a bigot for questioning anything about it, and people have lost their jobs over it. That's why anonymous forums should be a safe place for exchange of ideas. Nothing bad can happen if we disagree. \n\n

- >>24 \n\n > >I don't think OP was wanting to debate you,I can see from your ID that you are OP. Why start a thread on a forum if you don't want people to respond? Feel free to reply as yourself, you don't need to try and pretend to be someone speaking on your behalf. \n\n > >yet you attacked them point blank How did I attack you point blank? I calmly and politely replied to your post. This is what I mean, all I did was have a different opinion than you, and you feel attacked and threatened. \n\n > >without even knowing their backgroundWhat does your background have to do with anything? The whole point of an anonymous forum is that we can engage with ideas without needing to know anything about the person's background. \n\n > >Go on X much?Nope. Why? \n\n > >I think you would be great thereWhat does it mean to “be great” in terms of using a social platform? Whatever value you think that kind of thing has simply doesn't appeal or apply to me. \n\n > >you heartless monsterPlease tell me what I've said for you to have this reaction... \n\n > >How about YOU go on there and never come back?Well that's me told! \n\n

- >>1,5-6,8-9,21,24 are the same person. as said above it's obvious from the IDs but also their habit of typing punctuation without spaces, like this.
- Schizo posting?? Bait?? if so, it's pretty stupid looking \n\n I think >>2 (who has continued replying ITT) made some pretty decent and nuanced points. \n\n >>2
- I appreciate I'm simplifying things, and I suspect you were kind of joking or appealing to >>1's stupid ass argument, but I think your idea of "transphobes = the multitude of people who don't really think hard about gender" is misleading. Those people are not transphobes at all (and this is maybe the point you were trying to make?). \n\n Compare this with racism, homophobia, sectarianism, etc - discrimination is when people are bullied, attacked, disadvantaged, not simply when they aren't having their worldview validated. \n\n "I don't understand / respect your identified gender" --> this is potentially ignorant, and quite a bit rude, but I wouldn't call it discrimination any more so than saying you don't recognise someone's god, or that you don't respect their vegan ideology.
- "I am going to attack/harass/kill you because of your identified gender" --> this IS discrimination. But only a small minority of people are actually engaging in stuff like this. \n\n Actual transphobes definitely exist, but they're not someone's republican grandfather, they're select online shoutbox figures and "systems" in place that make it difficult for trans people to acquire the mental and medical assistance they require, with the biggest impact probably being that hateful individuals being platformed can have serious consequences to the resources available to marginalised communities like trans people. That's in the 1st world anyway - I'm sure things are different in the middle east and other backwards ass countries where the powers that be kills people they don't like. \n\n Yes there are people like >>1 who complain about perceived "transphobia" which is in actuality confusion/ignorance/rudeness. Is that annoying for the victim? sure. But it's not discrimination.
- If I had to guess, I would suggest that >>1 is not a trans person, but someone trying to lampoon a trans person. I have never met any trans people who actually give a shit about being "recognised" or "validated" vs much more pressing matters like laws that might criminalise their existence. \n\n

- Anonymous (2026-01-26 18:03 ID:qDhFSbKL )
- >>15 I think you hit upon a great point, namely that the "trans rights" issue is essentially a big distraction. It probably evolved naturally but the grift economy (ie world news and media) is fanning the flames for easy sales. "YOU HAVE ENEMIES AND YOU SHOULD BE SCARED!" sells. And so it perpetuates and polarises people instead of letting them worry about actual issues. \n\n If we're waging a nonsense war between ourselves over societal standards, we can't fight a hostile system that serves to bleed every individual dry for the sake of soulless "systems" that perpetuate their own wealth. \n\n I don't think we can focus on long-term sustainability of our resources (by which I mean, having enough food/clean water/electricity/etc for all living humans)* without first dismantling capitalism and replacing it with something that prioritises avoiding human suffering.
- And I don't think we can safely dismantle capitalism whilst we are distracted with stupid issues like society agreeing on their definitions of acceptable gender and sexual identity. \n\n Does this mean we shouldn't talk about gender? I wouldn't say so, but I don't think it should be the priority rant that people take to the internet in droves for. \n\n *This might sound like I'm some sort of doomsday prepper or environmental activist - I'm not that extreme. I do believe the planet is somewhat at risk of abuse - but I don't think things are too far gone.
- I just think we are in the right age - of technology and intelligence - to work on fixing some big problems. I don't think we should wait another 100 years before dealing with stuff like mass scarcity or extreme hoarding of resources, and should take steps to protect easily fixable things, like the rising sea level. But because nobody cares, nobody acts, and as our society continues to slip deeper into the shit it will be our granchildren's solemn duty to dig themselves out of the mess. We'll be remembered as the stupid lazy people who did nothing to fix the problems they made worse because we were too busy complaining about stupid things online - that sucks IMO. \n\n

- > >29 you, as they say. We're currently at the "weak men create hard times" part of the cycle. It really sucks for us, especially since y'know, we're self-aware enough to see this coming from a mile a way, while those in positions of power are just like... too self-absorbed and narrow-minded to give a shit for the next generation. Which makes sense, they're old after all and they'll no longer be affected by the consequences of their policies. \n\n

- >>28 Yep I was appealing to the stupid ass argument that anyone who doesn't agree with every aspect of it is a transphobe and therefore the Enemy. But not just \n\n > >people who don't really think hard about genderbecause some people do think of it, and conclude that they don't agree, it's just a case of it not being relevant to their worldview. If they call Mitsy the non-binary they/them female “her”, they're not wrong even if they've hurt Mitsy's feelings - just because Mitsy preferred toy cars to barbie dolls in their childhood and it made them feel like they weren't really a girl, that has no bearing on how those people are using pronouns. Kind people will use someone's preferred pronouns for the sake of being kind, or just to avoid being called a transphobe, but not necessarily because they believe or respect the person's own gender identity. \n\n > >I have never met any trans people who actually give a shit about being "recognised" or "validated"I have, but it's not unique to trans people to get hung up on needing validation from other people. \n\n
