• Now? \n\n Did you see your first anime in the last year or something? \n\n Maybe it just seems like there's more 'pedophilia' coming from Japan because people are largely oblivious to how prevalent sex crimes committed against children are in their own countries. Seriously. \n\n Unlike many countries in the west with chronic problems with pedophilia - Japan largely abides by the age of consent rules. If you look at crime statistics, Japan is typically ranked 50th or lower for ALL sex crimes INCLUDING pedophilia related crimes. The US, UK, etc are keeping it classy in the top 10 to 20 for most sex crimes committed. \n\n One of those differences is that Japan allows for the outlet of undesirable sexual attraction through fiction - lolicon culture, underage characters, fictional pornography etc.
• The west on the other hand won't even allow abuse of fiction children to occur in peoples imaginations - it's repressed to the point that quite a few people snap and go after real children instead. \n\n Japan isn't shy about the existence of people attracted to younger ages - but because they openly allow safer outlets for them it makes them an easier target for countries that are essentially massive hypocrites. \n\n If I had to choose between Japan allowing the pursuit of fake, non-existent children on paper and computers versus the Wests frequent sexually active pedophiles, child sex trafficking rings and dark net child exploitation and porn distribution groups... I'd rather Japan stick with the saucy drawings and computer animation and leave real kids out of it. \n\n Don't go looking up the registered sex offenders list for people in your area. You WILL regret knowing just how many kiddy diddlers live within driving distance of you. That is a fact. \n\n

• Since the 'lolicon' culture started to be spread (thanks to the internet that created an entire culture around that and treated it as a normal thing), animes with lots of sexual content involving children or people that look underage have been the most profitable. Japanese people also lack some sense of morality, which is why most of them will produce anything that gives money. \n\n The animated movies industry, however, hasn't been that affected by the 'lolicon' culture. In This Corner of the World, Kimi no Na Wa and Koe no Katachi were produced recently and are great movies. That's why I don't watch many TV series but still watch movies very often. \n\n

• The issue I see with the loli / lolicon debate is that it make s people who are normally principled and rational abandon ideas like free speech and free expression in favour of appearing to fit in and hate the 'pedos'. I mean don't get me wrong, I hate child abusers too, but lolicons and paedophiles are two vastly different things. But I digress, the point I want to make is that even if lolis do allow paedophiles to get off, they should still be allowed. The reason is simple: the creation of fictional characters does not cause real harm. Even if lolis are wrong and immoral, they don't hurt anyone, and you're free to avoid them if you wish. This being the case, they should be protected by free speech just as things like blasphemy are. Now, some people might respond by saying that lolis could lead to real child abuse; this is simply untrue (I think most of you probably already know, but for those of you newly born degenerates, this is a completely unfounded and baseless claim, with no evidence to support it). \n\n
