- (This may also go for smartphones)Ads popping up even moreso, easy access to brainrot,bs politics, preds and other sources of unhealthy content. I don't understand the normie desire for smartphones or tablets and I probably never will. Taking on a hobby or going outside seems more relaxing and enjoyable, especially with the news that apple is considering the idea to impliment renting apps into their ecosystem which sadly may cause android to follow suit. (posting from a portable gaming device btw,I'll let your imagination do the work on what it might be.)Does anyone else feel this way and what are your thoughts on these mind numbing devices? \n\n

- I wish tablets worked as designed. I have an older one I rescued which I use for reading and stuff which is decent. A PC keyboard sucks ass for anything that is not Latin or cryllic script. I’d like text input by drawing it on a tablet for things like Arabic and Chinese. Input with a pen on a screen in those languages feels natural compared to keyboards. Sadly tablets are just blown up smartphones that will become paperweights after a few years and are so locked down you can’t install your own OS on them. \n\n

- I feel like this is more of an underlying problem with the modern internet, and not as much with the smartphones and tablets themselves.
- Sure, they reinforce the problem by giving easy access to trash, but the bigger issue is that the trash is there in the first place to access. \n\n Once upon a time, I didn't really see the point to a smartphone. "I just need a phone to be a phone, if I want to play a game then I'll use a game system."
- But I ended up getting one later for some reason or another, and realized having a powerful internet-connected computer available whenever you need to look up something or do stuff with it is kind of a big deal. \n\n > >Taking on a hobby or going outside seems more relaxing and enjoyableIf I'm on a break at work, I can't really work on a hobby or go on much of a walk.
- But I can read up on stuff, or jot down something that was on my mind, or play a game for a bit. \n\n > >renting appsOkay, yeah, fuck that shit. \n\n

- I have a gen 1 iPad but I can't find a way to get it running. I only want to use it for sheet music, which I already have saved, so I don't even need an internet connection for it. I tried a few times to get past the error when I plugged in but I always give up \n\n

- I really appreciate you taking the time to try and help me. I think Apple Devices is a Windows app for connecting to iPads and stuff, on my newer Mac it opens it in the Finder. But I get the same thing both ways, it seems like the iPad gets lost when it starts restoring and starts the loop again.
- I did wonder if the battery was completely dead and can't hold a charge, and it dies when it loses power for a moment in the restoring process, but I would expect to see the empty battery image if that was the case. If I leave it plugged in, the “connect to iTunes” screen stays on until I unplug it, and does nothing if I try to switch it on unplugged. \n\n

- My understanding of the battery indicator is that it estimates off of other stuff instead of polling the battery itself. I think.
- So if it's not staying charged, then yeah, that could be the case.
- I had an old iphone that was getting pretty bad on that front, could barely trust it to last the whole day.
- But I dunno if that would cause the errors, feels to me like >>7's probably more on track with those. \n\n
